Lesson 3 – Defined Activities

It is important that your nonprofit’s budget and strategic plan are aligned. Your budget should be set up to meet your specific needs and goals. Each activity has a separate budget that is combined into the organization-wide operational budget.

For example, your nonprofit may set a goal to raise $15,000 to build a computer lab at an inner-city school. First, you will need to put together a budget that plans out all of the necessary expenses to build such a computer lab. This should take into account each item needed to purchase, such as: computers, wifi and miscellaneous equipment. On your larger organization-wide budget, designate what sources you are using to raise $15,000 and allocate the funds.
